Thank goodness this came in the post today...

because I had a really rough day on the tennis court. For some reason, I have decided to take up tennis with a group of 40 somethings, all of whom are quite athletic, to my surprise (you would have never guessed from the carpool lane!). I have been attending weekly clinics and then hitting with the girls while are kids take lessons. On a side note, before starting tennis, I have been having a lot of trouble with my joints in my knees and hands. I haven't been able to knit at full throttle for some now, thus the lack of blogging. I went to the doctor this week for that problem and he ordered a complete blood workup - trying to rule out lymes, arthritis etc...

So fast forward back to today. Before I went to tennis, I had to get lots of blood drawn. I have awful veins, so it took several sticks. I also had been fasting since last evening. When I showed up at the tennis court, the girls wanted to play a game of doubles. Well, they have been playing pretty regularly for months (one in a tennis league), and I just started two weeks ago. Between the fasting, blood-letting, and lack of experience on the court, I started to give out after about 45 minutes. By the second set, I was pooped and feeling faint. So, wimpily, I convinced another friend to come off another court and take my place. I have felt yucky for the rest of the day - sort of depressed at the fact that I am not as athletic - never have been, upset that I didn't finisht the game, and daunted at how I am going to have to work so hard to get to where I can play and feel like I can contribute on the court.

Better to think of yarn...and to the Lornas Laces that arrived in my mailbox today. Thank goodness it came. It reminds me that I may not be the best at handling a racket, but I can compete pretty darn well with a couple of knitting needles in hand. I will have to settle at being one crafty gal who is determined to get it together on the tennis court. Maybe I will make myself some lovely tennis anklets out of this daffodil yarn. I just love fashion on the court. That would surely bring me some good luck!
